Promotion Requirements

To remain in good standing in the Medical Honors Pathway, and in order to matriculate into New York Medical College, students must meet the following requirements:

  • A Lander College cumulative GPA of not less than 3.5 in the sciences and overall at the end of each year of the baccalaureate component of the program
  • Annual progress reports from the premedical advisor to the Medical Honors Pathway-Admissions, Promotions and Mentoring Committee must indicate that satisfactory progress is being made in the baccalaureate component of program, including high performance in all required courses, as well as those strongly recommended (see baccalaureate curriculum requirements)

In addition, Medical Honors Pathway students must successfully complete the following requirements in order to matriculate into New York Medical College:

  • The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) must be taken no later than September of the year prior to matriculation into New York Medical College, with a minimum total score of 29 and a biology sub-score of “10” (using the 2012 standards)
  • Students in the Medical Honors Pathway must have an on campus New York Medical College Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) no later than October 31st of the year prior to matriculation and must obtain a satisfactory score

If a student experiences academic or other difficulties during the undergraduate portion of the pathway, the Lander Colleges will provide counseling and other resources to assist the student.

If, despite these efforts, the student no longer meets the standards for continued enrollment in the pathway, the Admissions, Promotions and Mentoring Committee will recommend that the student no longer be eligible to participate in the Medical Honors Pathway. Such individuals are still eligible to apply to New York Medical College, or to any other medical school, as a regular applicant.

Binding Commitment By Student

Students who meet these standards and are approved to matriculate into the pathway at New York Medical College will be required to make a binding commitment by October 31st of the year prior to commencing studies at New York Medical College.
