At Touro’s Lander College of Arts and Sciences (LAS), our goal is to help you become who you want to be while respecting who you are and what’s important to you.

Our academic programs span everything from accounting, business, and finance to computer science, biology, psychology, and speech to political science. With strong pathways to medical and dental schools, graduate programs, or direct entry into the workforce, you’ll find the support and flexibility you need to achieve your goals in a student-centered environment rooted in Jewish values.

Our History and Purpose

Dr Lander with colleagues at opening of new building

Touro University was founded by Dr. Bernard Lander (z”tl) in 1971 to serve the educational needs of the Jewish community, and LAS opened its doors just five years later in the heart of Brooklyn. From the start, the Touro mission has been clear: to provide career-driven academic opportunities in a supportive environment that honors our students’ personal and religious values and commitments.

What began with a small cohort of men in 1976 has since grown into a vibrant campus for our men’s division and women’s division, attracting students from across the New York metro area and beyond. Our Flatbush campus on Avenue J opened in 1996 and remains a hub for Touro LAS students pursuing meaningful professional degrees while juggling family, religious studies, and community commitments.

As the Orthodox community has expanded to Lakewood, Monsey, the Five Towns, and Israel, so has our reach. Today, with more than 10,000 graduates and counting, we’re proud to welcome a new generation of students whose parents were among the earliest graduates of Touro LAS.

Our Students

Touro LAS students often arrive after seminary or yeshiva, and some are newly or soon-to-be married or raising young children. They’re here at Touro Flatbush because they are looking for a clear, efficient path to a degree that leads to real professional opportunities and parnassah.

Our students aren’t looking for a typical college experience. They’re here for serious academics, flexible schedules, practical career prep, professors who understand their values, and a degree that leads somewhere — not someday, but soon.

If you’re focused, motivated, and ready to enter the professional world with real skills and a clear plan, you’ll thrive at Touro LAS.

Touro offers a quality education in an environment that’s built for Orthodox students. The faculty understand your lifestyle, and the programs are structured around your values — from asynchronous coursework to holiday accommodations.
