Rochi Stern: Tapping Into Psych
“I transferred from Brooklyn College to Touro because I realized that I really missed being in a Jewish environment.”
Long-time tap dancer Rochi wants to earn her doctorate in clinical psychology, but she’s interested in the business side of psychology—either pursuing industrial psychology, or opening up her own clinic and hiring psychologists. She was inspired to enter the business world by her fiancé, who opened up two businesses. “I’ve seen how exciting it is to work for yourself and see the rewards coming to you directly,” she says. And she already has experience in business. As a property manager at a real estate company, she’s responsible for 150 company-owned buildings. She deals with applications for buying properties, renting and selling, Notice of Violations, tenant payments, field agents, and evictions. “Everything besides the bookkeeping," she says.

MAJOR Psychology
CLASS OF 2016
FAVORITE class: Abnormal Psychology, two summers ago, with Professor Yehoshua Bochner. He was really, really brilliant. I loved his classes and I took Introduction to Counseling immediately after Abnormal.
BEHIND THE SCENES
I originally wanted to become a physician’s assistant, but I shadowed a PA once and got very queasy during a procedure. That was the end of that, of course. Meanwhile, I took a psychology course as a prerequisite, and I was doing really well. I figured, why not try it out? Five years later, I’m still trying it out, and loving it!
